MONMOUTH COUNTY - The “Combat to College” Act sponsored by Assemblywoman Joann Downey (D-Freehold) was approved unanimously by the State Senate this Monday, moving it to the Governor’s desk to be signed.
Under this bill (A-790), military service members and veterans living in New Jersey would be granted priority when registering for courses at New Jersey public colleges and universities.
Assemblywoman Downey released the following statement regarding the passage of this bill:
“It can be challenging for an active service member to plan their class schedule around their service obligations. Not only does this bill honor our veterans by moving them to the front of the line for course registrations, it also makes it easier for active-duty service members to advance their education while serving our country. By passing this legislation, we can continue our efforts to help veterans access opportunities in higher education.”
