Assembly Members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey are inviting local children to learn more about their government through fun, games and collaboration at the first annual Kids Congress.
Kids Congress is a non-partisan, kid-friendly event that offers Monmouth County children between the ages of 6 and 10 the opportunity to learn how their government works, why legislators pass laws, and how a law is made through fun games and group activities.
“We both have found public service to be one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences of our lives,” said Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling. “We hope to help every child develop the same passion for serving their communities.”
“A sense of civic duty and patriotism is instilled at a young age,” said Assemblywoman Joann Downey. “Whether it’s the length of recess or the amount of homework their teachers assign, we want to make sure that our kids have the tools and insight to discuss the issues that affect them, both now and later in life.”
Kids Congress events will be held at the following locations:
- 9:30 AM, Monday, August 27th: Eastern Branch Library, 1001 NJ-35, Shrewsbury

- 9:30 AM, Wednesday, August 29th: Colts Neck Library, 1 Winthrop Dr, Colts Neck
