Monmouth County Assembly Members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey have launched their first annual Supplies for Students drive, to collect backpacks, notebooks, crayons, pencils, and various other school supplies for local students in need. The supply drive will run until the end of the summer, and donations will benefit United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
“It is heartbreaking to think of the students who will be returning to school this fall without everything they need to succeed academically,” said Downey (D-Monmouth), “No child should have to feel out of place or left behind in school because their families may not be able to afford everything they need.”
“We had a great response from the community for past drives, including our Prom Dress Drive, and we hope to have a good response this time as well,” said Houghtaling (D-Monmouth), “We all want to do our part to ensure that every child in our state has the means to succeed.”
Houghtaling and Downey will be accepting donations at their Legislative Office in Ocean Township at 802 West Park Avenue, Suite 221, Ocean Township, NJ 07712, until Friday, September 9, 2016. The hours of the office are 9:00am to 5:00pm, weekdays. Supplies needed are: backpacks, number 2 pencils, crayons, colored pencils, composition notebooks, construction paper, erasers, folders, glue sticks, rulers, safety scissors, spiral notebooks, index cards, highlighters, hand sanitizer, calculators, graph paper, and ring binders and dividers.
The donations will benefit United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Anyone wishing for more information about how to donate or get involved can contact the Houghtaling and Downey office at (732) 695-3371 or email [email protected].
