Downey Bill Requiring NJ to Uphold Paris Climate Agreement Clears First Legislative Hurdle


(TRENTON) - An Assembly panel approved on Thursday legislation sponsored by Assembly Democrats Raj Mukherji, Andrew Zwicker, Valerie Vainieri Huttle, Tim Eustace, Joann Downey, James Kennedy and Nancy Pinkin requiring New Jersey to take part in the U.S. Climate Alliance to uphold the Paris Climate Accord and the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

The bill was first introduced last session, and given final approval by the Assembly on January 8. It was among many bills subjected to a pocket veto under the previous Governor.

Houghtaling Bill to Increase Penalties for Slamming Practices Clears Assembly Panel


(TRENTON) - Bipartisan legislation sponsored in-part by Assembly Democrats Daniel Benson, Eric Houghtaling, and Paul Moriarty to strengthen state law against energy "slamming" practices was released on Monday by the Assembly Telecommunications panel.

Energy "slamming" is a practice that involves changing consumers' electric power or gas supplier without their knowledge or consent.
